James joined Barrick in June 2020 following the merger of two major gold miners, Barrick and Randgold Resources in 2019. His role covers the day-to-day operations as well as working with Governments to develop fiscal frameworks that will provide long term investment destinations for major investors like Barrick. Prior to joining Barrick, James was senior tax partner at Deloitte having 28 years’ experience in the UK and international markets, having worked in the Johannesburg and Moscow during his career. At Deloitte he was the global tax leader for mining and contributed to thought leadership and tax planning strategies for major investors in the sector. He remains actively involved in industry bodies such as the International Council on Metals and Mining and the World Gold Council.
